If you were signed up for AutoWeek Fantasy Camp, you'd have climbed into the ten best sports coupes under $50,000 for a day of blasting around the Ford Dearborn Development Center. Participants started with a morning briefing covering safety regulations and track guidelines; after that, they cut loose on the track for 9/10ths driving with pros riding shotgun, full vehicle evaluations, plus conversations with Chip Foose and the folks from Meguiars and ZF.

This is the Caterham RST-V8 Levante, an example of what happens when a chirpy British sports car turns over to the dark side. The Levante is the work of RS Performance, which has taken an SV chassis, stuffed a 2.4-litre supercharged V8 into the front and coated the lot in swathes of carbon fibre. The result is 550bhp in a chassis weighing little over 500kg.
With a very strong Lewis Hamilton on pole in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix it looks like McLaren are in a dominant position. But are they? McLaren has been strong in the last few races, with Hamilton taking three poles in four and Button winning from lights to flag in Spa, followed by what should have been a second place behind Hamilton at Monza if his car had made it to the end of the race.
